A trick I like to employ when working with banner ads that uses both regular and italic font sets, like in the Gillette ads below, is to skew the text anywhere from 10-15%. You save on file size because you are still using regular text but with the skew it looks like it's italic fonts. Keep in mind you can only use the skew when setting the text to "anti-alias for animation" because "readability" will just set it back to regular even though it looks skewed on the stage.
